Week 19- And the nesting begins…

This refers to the next frenzied stage of pregnancy (ironically/logically tying in with the 2nd trimester when you are at your most energetic!) where you prepare for the baby’s arrival.
For most parents, this might involve painting the room pink/blue/neutral yellow/orange/green and then buying/borrowing/begging/stealing the baby crib, clothes, feeding equipment etc. For us, it involves many other things as we have been delayed in the preparation of our home…
We have been in our apartment for 3 years already and though friends have pestered us about a housewarming, we delayed and delayed that it never happened! Just the other day, we were thinking about what we do with our free time and for the life of us, we can’t think of any time-consuming activity.
Tsk, tsk, tsk…that’s us, we’re such homebodies aka hermits (or workhorses) that we spend all the free either resting, cleaning or watching DVDs. Any communal activities we join in is by invitation (from family, friends or work) and not initiative!
That said, you can imagine the condition of our place…perfect lounging area for the two of us and not fit for any outsiders (That James Bond movie song “For Your Eyes Only” must be dedicated to us). When our PILs come by, we go on a major spring-cleaning so that the place will look decent enough for them or they’ll think we’re cult members or something. Anyway, I digress…
After a nice dim sum breakfast at Maxim’s (Taman Pekaka) and poring over IKEA’s old catalogues and other home decor mags, we’ve got to:
a. install an air cond in the baby room
b. make new curtains & cushion covers
c. paint the hall, rooms and doors
d. get more shelves for the kitchen
e. get more storage for the hall and study
f. get the crib and baby supplies
and some other little bits.
Pant, pant, pant! Such a long list and a lot of work…our hunt will begin this week and also next - we just hope that that there’ll still be good prices around since the MEGA SALE ended last weekend.
Luckily, I got some hand-me-downs from my sis but have not checked them out yet. I dunno…some people say it’s pantang (taboo) to check out baby things before the 6th or 7th month. I’m also on the look-out for maternity blouses to fit my growing tummy. More money going out!
BABY NOTES: Your baby is now up to about 9 ounces and is about 8.5 inches from head to toe. The exterior layers of skin tissue develop and form your baby’s one-of-a-kind fingerprints.Amniotic fluid that surrounds your baby allows for the free movement of the arms and legs and is also sometimes swallowed to practice digestion. Don’t worry about the waste that comes from this, your body replaces the amniotic fluid every four hours.
