My little girl is now 33 months old and I wonder how the nurse at the Klinik Kesihatan will respond when I give her the toddler’s updates:
1. Boleh mengikut arahan? (Obeys instructions)
“Tengok mood dialah. Kalau suruh makan aiskrim, dia ikutlah, kalau suruh makan sayur, dia tak ikutlah…”
(It depends on her mood. When I offer her an ice-cream, she’ll eat it. When I offer her some greens, she’ll say “Yuck!”)
2. Menconteng? (Scribbles)
“Merata-rata tempat – atas dinding, atas buku-buku saya, muka dia sendiri pun dia conteng!”
(Everywhere. She scribbles all over the walls, my books – she even scribbles on her own face!)
3. Melukis bulatan? (Draws circles)
“Bulatan yang sangat, sangat, sangat kecil hanya semut yang boleh nampak, OK tak? Dia akan cakap ‘circle, circle, circle’ sepuluh kali, pass kah?
(Does a miniscule circle, that only an ant can see, qualify? She can say, “circle, circle, circle” continuously for 10 times until I acknowledge her. Does that count too?)
4. Bermain secara interaktif (Plays interactively)
“Oh, boleh. Pandai dia berinteraktif. Dia akan rampas permainan orang lain terutamanya abangnya. Kalau dia sedang bermain anak patung dan abangnya sedang bermain kereta, dia akan rampas kereta abang.
Bila abangnya bermain denagan anak patung, dia akan rampas balik anak patung itu dan jerit, “Mine!!! (Saya punya!!!)
(She’s very interactive. She snatches toys away from others, especially her brother. If she’s playing with a doll and her brother’s playing with a car, she’ll snatch his car. When her brother turns to the doll, she’ll also snatch the doll away and yell, “Mine!”)
5. Menyatukan dua perkataan (Combines two words)
“Mummy (car)ry!”
“Play ball!”
“On (T)V!”
“More choc-krut? Choc-krut nye…” (More chocolate? Chocolate’s nice)
“Pink dress!”
6. Melompat setempat (Hops in place)
“Melompat setempat dan merata-rata tempat. Dia pandai lompat macam kataklah…jatuh dari katil dan sofa 1-2 kali pun tak takut.”
(In place and everywhere else. She’s as fearless as a frog. Falling off the bed and sofa once or twice doesn’t deter her either.)
7. Memakai pakaian (Puts on one article of clothing)
“Dia boleh pakai baju dan seluar tapi tak matchinglah. Sayang, impian saya bergaya macam Katie Holmes atau Victoria Beckham tak jadilah…anak saya ini tak bergaya macam Suri Cruise atau Harper Sevenlah…”
(She can put on a t-shirt and a pair of shorts but they don’t match unless they are both pink. Obviously, my dream of becoming style icons like Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham are dashed because my daughter’s not as stylish as Suri Cruise or Harper Seven…)
8. Menanggal pakaian (Takes off one article of clothing)
“Boleh. Dia ni pandai menanggalkan cloth diaper dialah. Sebab itulah, saya lebih suka membeli cloth diaper yang menggunakan ‘snaps’ daripada Velcro…”
(She’s great at ripping off her cloth diapers, which is why I go for snaps nowadays, instead of Velcro)
9. Minum daripada cawan tanpa dibantu (Drinks from a cup without assistance)
Pandai
(She’s wonderful at drinking from a cup. In fact, she prefers the cup to the bottle, which explains the fact why I have a ton of unused MAM and NUK baby bottles.)
10. Menendang bola ke depan (Kicks a ball forward)
Sangat pandai!
“STOP!!! NO MORE KICKING!!! NO BALLS IN THE HOUSE!!!
(She’s a budding footballer. She loves to kick a ball with her brother and I love to yell at them to stop the football match at home. I’m so stressed, Nurse, does the Health Clinic offer spa or massage services?)
And that’s the Terrible Twos at our place
How’s it going at your home?
P/S If you don’t get the humour, that’s because I’m like Lorelai Gilmore (minus the commitment phobia). Read below:

You are Lorelai. You are energetic, perky, and witty, but sometimes your unique sense of humor can confuse people. You are well-liked by all, but you have trouble with commitment. |

Hahaha…..that means you got a healthy energic girl. Ask dear hubby to give you some me-time in a nearby spa. I’m looking forward having 2 children in 1 roof too :p
LOL!!! So funny la your answer. But i think they ask weird questions also hor…
Totally HILARIOUS!!!! I thought girls are easier to handle to than boys? That’s why I requested for one. Oh dear, too late for a return now….
Lilis – Thanks for the reminder! I have such a LONG to-do list, I didn’t include the spa or massage
It’s great that you’re looking forward to having 2 kiddos. They are fun even if they create a lot of hair-raising moments. Funnily, they are VERY, VERY, VERY well-behaved when they are on playdates -_-
chinnee – Stressed! LOL
By the way, these are standard developmental milestone you can find in the government clinic’s health card for children or any baby book. I’m just mentally preparing myself to answer the nurse
Paik Ling – Personally, I find that my girl is way more complex than my boy. She’s smarter too, which explains all the shenanigans.
Definitely too late to return her LOL but I love how sweet she can be i.e. she loves to hold my hand, she loves to give me kisses and I love, love, love her sweet voice calling “Mummy”
Sounds like you have a little chili padi there.
etceteramomy – Hubby and I secretly call her the “little monster” behind the brother’s back
How come the nurses at the private hospital that I used to go to never asked me all these questions in the past ah? Yours is quite detailed! I like Gilmore Girls too
Health Freak – That’s because it’s a tiny little government clinic in the kampung
So…are you like Lorelai too?
hahaha.. you are very funny hor .. she is such a little energizer bunny right!
CL – Oh yes, she is! Thank God I have a helper around…
