Burp the baby!

by SuperMom on June 11, 2010

EVERY time you feed the baby milk (breastfeed or formula), you must ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS burp her. Of course, most breastfed babies do not need to be burped…

In my case, my boy was a *difficult* baby – he’d cry for anything:

  • when he wants his milk;
  • when he wants to sleep;
  • when he wets his nappy or poops in his diaper;
  • when he’s hot (he’s never cold LOL);
  • when my father turned the page of his newspaper while he was sleeping!

Seriously, if he wasn’t my first born child and I didn’t have my parents’ support, I’d have given up as a Mother a long time ago because he drove all of us crazy with his crying…

Since he cried so much, he drew in a lot of “wind” in the tummy. Thus, burping him takes nearly 20 minutes of walking with his tiny head resting on my shoulder and my gently rubbing his back in a downwards motion.

And he’ll be YELLING all the time until that “URRRRRRK!” is heard. Somehow, nobody could burp him as well as I could :D

For my girl, it takes about 5-10 minutes while she sits on my legs with my left arm under both her armpits holding her upright. And she’ll be smiling sweetly as she watches with interest everyone and everything around her.

What a difference, eh?

Tonight, Hubby and I were talking about buying me some office furniture when she woke up crying three times after I’d put her to sleep at about 7.30 pm.

It’s really unusual because

  1. she had her last feed and she was burped,
  2. she had a clean nappy,
  3. the room temperature was just right (she wasn’t sweating – touch her forehead; she wasn’t freezing – touch her nose and ears)
  4. there are no mosquitoes/ants/other creatures on the bed and
  5. she was definitely sleepy and in no mood to play etc.

I decided to give her the ‘royal treatment’ i.e. prop her on my shoulder and gave her a gentle back rub as she was crying but her eyes were closed sleepily.

About 5 minutes later, a soft “urrrrrrkkkkk!” was heard. Ah, that nasty little burp that hides itself deep inside her until you get it out. And you do have to get it out or she just won’t be able to sleep. And neither will I!

Good night ZZZZZZZZZZ
