Like any other woman, I have skin problems like an oily T-zone, blackheads (especially around the nose area) and the horribly HUGE pimple when my period’s around the corner.
My only way around these problems was to go for regular facials at Dermalogica and undergo the painful process of extractions…
My Lancome’s Mousse Clarté Self-foaming Cleanser was down to the last pump when Cellnique sent me the Moisturising Gel Wash to try.
What is Cellnique?
“Cellnique is The Expert of Problematic Skin. All Cellnique products are formulated with Cx Formulation. Cx Formulation is an advanced in-clinic formulation that combines the power of biological active ingredients, natural plant extracts, antioxidants and a bio-active delivery system, offering the best performance for immediate and visible results for various skin problems.”
First impressions
The Cellnique Moisturising Gel Wash leaked out of the bottle even though it had a screw cap. I think it’s due to those “PRESS” tops, which I personally avoid because there’s always the risk of leaking especially in the high-pressure aircraft cabin.
Cellnique should definitely look into changing its bottle to spray pumps with a top like the Lancome’s Self-Cleansing Foam if they intend to attract women who are always on the go
Looking at the four products, I was a bit confused because three of them are “Made in the USA” while the Moisturising Gel Wash is “Made in Singapore”. Also, Cellnique brands itself as “paramedical”. What does that mean??? I need to find out more when I have the time…
Here are the list of ingredients, which has Purified Water, Green Tea extract (not visible) and Cocamidopropyl Betaine (not “Cocoa”midopropyl Betaine) as its major ingredients.
How is the Cleanser?
I like the gel because just a little drop (the size of 2 peas?) gave me more than enough foam. Foaming up my face, the scent reminded me of The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Cleanser, which I used for a while in my early 20s.
PROS
Cellnique’s Gel Wash is:
+ gentle – no “tight” after-wash feeling;
+ easy to wash off – saves water and time! I’m glad it’s NOT one of those cleansers, which still feel soapy even after rinsing with a lot of water.
+ a mild cleanser i.e. no allergic reactions!
CONS
- Bad news is that the cleanser still leaks even though I keep it upright in the bathroom.
- Due to its packaging, it’s not the cleanser I packed in during a recent flight I took.
Will it be THE cleanser for me?
I don’t think so. After using it for 3 weeks, I get the feeling that my face is not as clean as it should be (which is the same feeling I got when I used The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Foaming Cleanser). It’s probably too “gentle” for my oily T-zone.
Plus, retailing at RM119 per bottle (6 fl. oz, 200 ml), I find that rather expensive for a daily cleanser I’ll be using twice a day.
UPDATE: After a consultation with a senior beautifician, I found out that post-cleansing solutions are needed for that really “clean” feeling. Therefore, I can continue to use Cellnique’s Moisturising Gel Wash as I need a mild one. Yay!!!
Here are photos showing how better my skin looks after nearly 3 weeks of using the Gel Wash and a proper skincare routine:
BEFORE
I maintained the use of my regular Lancome Hydrating Toner and Suisse Reborn Day Moisturizer. In fact, I was pleased to hear a friend say that my face looks brighter now
Thank you to Cellnique for letting me try out the cleanser.
Have you tried out Cellnique’s Gel Wash? How did it work for you?

Guess it’s too mild for you to clean your face. They sent me 3 products to try, I’m still trying to see the effect of Skin Action Sebum Gel, it’s more than 10 days, I’m seeing a tiny bit of improvement but not obvious enough to show in photo. I’ll give it a month to see whether there will be any major difference then I’ll blog about it.
Irene – It’s Day 1 for me with the Skin Action Sebum Gel. I can’t wait to see if there’s a positive effect on my blackheads
