Newborn in Bumwear pocket diaper

by Kit on January 23, 2010

Now that my little princess is 4.1 kg (sigh, she’s just reaching her brother’s birthweight at 2 months!), I decided to take out my stash of cloth diapers.

Also, I noticed a bit of nappy rash today :-( Since she poos more frequently now especially after a breastfeeding session, I wonder if that’s the reason?

Bumwear Petite One-Size Cloth Diaper

Anyway, I stopped the disposables today, applied some Drapolene and started her on cloth. I’d received this newborn-sized pocket diaper from Bumwear for review and love the petite size :-) .

This cloth diaper is smaller and trimmer than the earlier Bumwear cloth diapers I got for my boy (read my review here).

If you are new to cloth diapering, you need to be aware that cloth diapers become more and more absorbent after more than 3 washes. Unless stated, it’s really best that you pre-wash your cloth diapers a few times with your regular laundry before you try them on your baby. Or you’ll be blessed by “hot pee” :D

For my “newborn”, the exact thing happened! Poor Grandma was propping her up one Sunday morning and suddenly felt a warm sensation on her pants. Oops…the little girl wee-ed on her O_O

I think she’s still a bit too skinny for the cloth diaper.

Today, I tried the Bumwear cloth diaper again as a diaper cover (minus the microfibre soaker) with the traditional white square or kain lampin.

We experienced no leaks probably because the white square fills up the gaping hole in the leg casing.

The Bumwear newborn or petite-sized pocket diaper comes with a smaller version of the standard, rectangular microfibre insert.

Personally, I don’t like snaps but since my baby girl’s not moving around that much YET, the snaps are easy to use and fit her nicely.

3 rows of snaps are on this cloth diaper and she’s currently on the middle row. You can fold down the top of the cloth diaper if your newborn baby’s umbilical cord stump hasn’t fallen off yet.

I am a huge fan of Bumwear’s one-size cloth diapers because my son just loves the super soft microfleece.

When I examined the inside of this newborn / petite cloth diaper, I am pleased to see a new version of inner microfleece – it’s really plush, feels more “cotton-y” and luxuriously soft to the touch! I can’t stop touching it :D

Previously, semi-solid poo was hard to rinse off Bumwear’s microfleece inner – I don’t really want to want to find out if this new, super-soft and white microfleece will work better. Sorry, I’m just too tired…

Will try and report back later ;-) Have you tested the new Bumwear petite with a newborn’s runny poo?

I’ve also started Glennie on CD this week.

She looks very comfortable there… but did she gets any nappy rash??? I found some on Glennie after switching her from dispo to CD though… but nothing of that sort happens to Darrius previously. Weird huh?

I bought myself 2 pairs of Bumwear one size pockets few months back because i wanted to cloth diaper my newborn (SOON to be born), but i’m guessing those will be too BIG for him to use. So i have some prefolds n lampins to use dring first few weeks.

It’s only recently I read reviews about how Bumwear’s leg gaps are wide n cause for leaks, n yikes, regarding the hard to wash poop too. I hope i didn’t make the wrong choice in buying them!

I?personally prefer itty bitty or bumgenius. they both work well for me 5.5kg now.

Angeleyes - She had nappy rash, which is why I started on the CDs! But cloth diapering a newborn is definitely time consuming & labour intensive. I may go back to dispos for now :P

Farhana - Bumwear’s one size is supposed to be used from newborn till toddler age.

I’m using them as diaper covers now (my boy loved the microfleece!!! if you read my review) but my 2 month’s old’s frequent and runny poo make me hesitant to CD her for now.

VivianZ - Ugh, runny poo isn’t THAT easy to clean off Bumgenius either. I *love* Itti Bitti but gonna wait till she’s older unless runny poos cleans off easily…let me know!

Allisia – Ya, I think the new CD needs to be “seasoned” first and yes, it is too hot. She loves to sleep in the air-cond LOL

Paik Ling – Thanks :D I have tubes and tubes of Drapolene coz the boy was OK with it previously. Anyway, her rash has cleared, thankfully. I think her old Mum needs to refresh her memory on babycare!

Hooi Ling – Gong Xi Fa Cai, dear! Wait till you meet her…she’s pretty and fierce. Scarylah hahaha

Jen Cheung – Welcome and thanks. Hope you’ll come back soon once you discover how fun blogs are :-)

I’ve tried Fuzzybunz, Bumgenius, etc but my fav is Fuzzybunz =) But I haven’t tried Bumwear, since Marvel is wearing pants dispo, wondering any pants cloth diapers ?

Lilis – Hey there! :D You’re into cloth diapers too, eh? Bumwear has pull-up pants, I think but do read reviews before you get any.

Yes, pooping too much will indeed cause nappy rash. You can try Pureen nappy rash cream as it has zinc oxide, which is very good for diaper rash. Of you can just go to the pharmacy to buy plain zinc oxide cream which is pretty cheap and very effective for treating diaper rash.
Baby C wore Bumwear when she was a few mths old and is still wearing it at 2yo. Her weight is only 10.2kg, pathetic hor?.
