Week 30 – Preparing for a newborn…again

by Kit on September 23, 2009

OMG…where have the weeks gone? Compared to my previous pregnancy, I’m definitely very, very late in preparing for the baby’s arrival this time around. Honestly, it’s been REALLY TOUGH handling a toddler-cum-preschooler, work and home on my own…

And I can’t sleep well because the baby moves rather vigorously. And I get up to pee at odd times during the night! And the belly fat!!! Have I complained enough LOL???

NEWBORN CLOTHING 101
ANYWAY, I managed to sort out the packs of newborn and baby clothing (with my sister’s help) and found a nice pile of baby short-sleeve tops, long pants, babysuits (or onesies). And I’m glad to find that not everything is BLUE :-) Check out the pile:

I also found a big pile of bibs and remember that my boy was quite a drooler since he was 5 months old, which only stopped when he was 2.5 years old. I wonder if she’ll be a drooler too???

Looking at newborn clothes got me all nostalgic because I’d recall a special moment with my baby boy then (his first mango, his Papa’s first clothes shopping trip for him, his first trip on an aeroplane, his funny movements, his funny faces…sigh!)

I’d wanted to hand down some baby boy clothes to my cousin who is now the proud father of a baby boy but found quite a lot of them rather dirty (my boy WAS a messy eater!).

I also found a pink (and white) cap and crocheted booties an aunt gave me – he NEVER wore them probably because he was such a sweaty, fussy baby LOL. I hope I can dress my baby girl up ;-)

By the way, if you’re shopping for a newborn, it’s better to buy onesies 6 months and above because newborns grow really quickly!

Also, onesies or suits with an ‘envelope neckline’ (e.g. Baby Gap) and front buttons (e.g. Disney baby) are much easier to put on baby. Buttons on the back (e.g. green Carter’s babysuit) is much, much more difficult because the baby has to be on his/her tummy:

Since I can’t find a baby carrier that can fit into any of our strollers, I NEED to get a travel system. Without a baby carrier, we had problems getting out of the house when he was less than 6 months because he would:

a) wake up once he’s removed from the car seat and
b) protest when he’s strapped to the stroller.

Thus, having a baby carrier that moves straight from the car seat and snapped onto the stroller is definitely high on the list for me, especially as we may be travelling when the baby is older ;-)

GRACO MOSAIC TRAVEL SYSTEM
A Graco fan, I checked out the Graco Mosaic Travel System, which can accommodate a child from birth till 4 years old. The baby carrier / car seat is 3.9 kg (quite heavy) while the stroller was nice and sturdy but really heavy at 8.4 kg. Selling at RM1,450 at Mothercare in Penang. Still looking around…

HALFORD COSMO DX TRAVEL SYSTEM
I saw this Halford travel system, which looks quite good. The baby carrier is only 3.2 kg and the stroller is 6.4kg. Not sure if it’s a locally made brand but it’s supposed to be export quality to the UK?

The Halfford Cosmo DX travel system retails for only RM599 at Little Whiz (see their ad on my right sidebar?).

Does anyone have personal experience with this car seat, stroller or travel system?

Most importantly, let me know if anyone has a travel system to let go, ok!

How come most of the bibs are pink ? :) I used the Peg Perego Pilko P3 travel system with both my boys, and now the 3rd. It is quite heavy but extremely reliable. Never once broken in any way. I paid RM2k but I think I’ve got back my money’s worth kekeke

Paik Ling – My nieces’ old ones ma LOL I heard about the Peg Perego P3 system – kinda like it but it’s pricey! This short Mum doesn’t need a heavy AND expensive travel system ler…

Wah! So many hand me downs ah? That’s good wor, no need to spend so much. Babies grow so fast, it’s good to save on those initial clothings. Even up to now, Mei Mei still wears some of Ryan’s old clothings but the good thing about her is she gets excited wearing them and does not complain :)

I cannot comment on stroller coz I use no brand name, made in China one. Heh heh….as long as it works for me.

Oooh this is the travel system you are referring to. Nope, I didn’t invest on this. I used the local brand stroller and car seat.

Halford, they say is made in Korea. Anyways, I use the car seat, pretty good so far.

Wow… you got way too many baby’s clothes on hand, no worry! Can’t help much on the travel system as I never buy any! En En’s stroller and car seat were given by a relative and now En En is obediant enough to wear seat belt when sitting in the car and thereore car seat pass down to didi…

No wonder you are planning to sell off both your Graco MacLaren strollers. We used the Halford car seat for Yiu Yiu and it has served us well all this while. We recently upgraded her to the booster seat so the Halford car seat will be passed down to Yan Yan once she outgrows her carrier.

isnt it fun to prepare all these cute lil stuffs for your newborn?

11 chanelwong September 30, 2009 at 11:50 AM

wow…you are well prepared…

as for us, we got a evenflo baby carrier for 40% then manage to get someone to carry back a combi frame to attach the baby carrier because we thought having baby when Jeriel was about 3yrs old then we may need to have 2 strollers . having 2 strollers in my Aeroback booth was impossible..so solution was to use 1 stroller for jeriel and combi frame for baby…

Immomsdaughter – Hey, a good friend told me the same thing about her daughter and her son’s t-shirts and shorts too. Looking through the boy’s clothes again, I find many of them are pretty unisex, thankfully! Just need to chuck out those gross looking ones LOL

Michelle – Thanks ya :-)

Wen – Unpack already, phew.

ZMM – You’re the only who says it’s tiring. YES, you hit the nail on the head!

Leona & A Mom’s Diary – Good to hear that about Halford. I’ll give the travel system a good test-run coz I really had fun with the Graco Mosaic.

Chinnee – Fun but tiring alsolor esp as it’s a different sex this time plus I’m getting heavier and heavier. Browsing around not so fun already…

Chanel – Wow…your situation even more complex ya. Lucky for us, our boy is a walker and runner – he even refuses to sit in the supermarket trolley! Keeping my fingers crossed for a good travel system to come our way.

huh? buying new stroller cum car seat?? Can’t used his one? I am still using the old one for the new baby.

Sorry cant comment on this topic.

You’re getting a bb girl? That’s good. And boy do you have a lot of old bb clothes, so you don’t have to buy much new stuff. I also use a Peg Perego Piiko and it’s sturdy. It probably saved my baby’s life during our stroller accident.

girl, girl, yeah……
i use graco, bought it 2 yrs back at hkd1600+,but that day saw the price has dropped to hkd700+, sigh…

Angeleyes – LOL after what we’ve just talked about, I think my girl will turn out to be a tomboy more ;-)

Malaika’s Mummy – He will be using his until he’s too tall for it because it’s a convertible-cum-booster car seat suitable for 6 months above. We stayed at home a lot when he was a baby…

Health Freak – I checked out Peg Prego P3 but found the stroller rather heavy. Didn’t get a chance to see the baby carrier. Sigh!

HuiSia – I guess Graco came out with so many models, the old ones are affected. Interestingly, the Citisport’s and Volo’s prices went up. They’re really good strollers :-) but neither can fit a baby carrier – bleagh!
