How to wash Fussybutt Moonbow cloth menstrual pads?

by SuperMom on September 15, 2009

Now that I am 100% on Fussybutt Moonbow cloth pads, I thought it’d be useful to blog about the washing instructions given by Madam Sewfussy herself:

*Cold rinse, cold wash, low heat dry. No bleach, no softeners.

  • Wash all dyed items separately for the first cycle. Store flat (unsnapped.)
  • After each use, rinse your pads until the water runs clear. You may use soap when rinsing. I like Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap. If you choose to soak the pads until wash day, make sure to change the soak water daily.
  • Air drying will conserve energy but drying your Moonbows in the dryer on normal heat is okay too!
  • Sunning is great for stain removal but it will also lighten dye so use your judgment when placing colored pads in the sun.

Our wool-backed feminine items should not shrink unevenly after washing. If they do, please let me know.

Question: Where can I buy Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap? Sounds nice for such nasty items ;-)
