Pregnancy: Week 16 – Pimples, pain and predictions…

by SuperMom on June 22, 2009

Hubby and I had a quiet Father’s Day weekend at home, no special lunch or dinner due to a thunderstorm…at home and outside ;-)

When we talked about the second baby, I couldn’t help but compare the differences between the first pregnancy and this second one:

At 16 weeks this time around:
- I only feel slight flutters in my tummy (compared to pretty active movements for the boy);
- I have pimples!!!Hey, I didn’t get pimples when I was a teenager but now, I’ve got pus-filled ones popping all over my chin. A Chinese friend swears that it’s a sign I’m having a girl LOL
- Now that the nausea is over, I’m not as greedy or gluttonous as I was earlier. According to “What to Expect: Eating Well When You’re Expecting“, if you’re eating like a teenage boy, you could be expecting one. I am not soooo ;-) ;-)
- I’m not as ‘ugly-looking’ as I was when I was expecting my boy. Seriously, nobody commented that I look ‘different’ now LOL Previously, my nose was huge, my face was puffy – even my teeth looked ugly in photos!
- And Hubby notices that I prim myself more this time around compared to my looking like a real ‘rag bag’ last time…

One thing that’s worrying me are twinges of “pain” on my upper left breast region (above and under the armpit). Since we can’t feel any lumps (I’m not good with self-breast examinations anyway), Hubby thinks maybe it’s the breast ducts at work? Anyone felt this before???

In any case, I’ll mention this to the ob-gyn at our next appointment.

Lastly, I feel kind of bad for not giving this pregnancy as much attention as I did for the boy. No monthly updates and I’ve only just started eating steamed white pomfret…

He has been a really good big brother as he’s expanded his “Hello baby!” conversations to include:

  • activity updates – he’s going to school, we’re going to church, he’s watching Thomas etc
  • teaching the baby the names of his trains e.g. Thomas, Percy, James, Annie and Clarabel etc (the baby CAN now play trains together with him)
  • teaching the baby about trucks on the road, including traffic lights, stop signs and exit signs…In the first pregnancy, my career was slowing down but for this pregnancy, my work has been piling up! I exercise more and the baby benefits from all the reading we’re doing – hopefully it all balances up :P

sorry, don’t ring a bell about one sided aches on the boob but they were aching (from growing?) but wasn’t as bad as 1st pregnancy (maybe all stretched out from 1st pregnancy).

don’t feel bad about the ‘neglect’ on 2nd pregnancy coz it’s common. wait till baby comes out, u will try n cope with updates, etc. i don’t really feel bad (i try my best not to) neglecting my no.2. instead, i understand now wht it’s like to have more than 1 kid. :)

so, ur pregnancy very different now eh…:)…i pray that u and hubby will get a princess. i sooo cannot wait too! lol!

Sounds like a girl!!! :) As expected, I have a flawless complexion now :)

Eh, I had pimples when I was carrying my 3 gals. They say girl produces more hormones. So maybe it’s a girl this time. I am anxious to know too :D

Yeah, I experienced that breast pain too! and still does :) Never had this during my first pregnancy though …

Hey.. glad all is running smooth for you. I pray it’ll be a little princess for you too. Are you able to know the gender by your next appointment?

I have started to read this blog recently. When you mentioned the twinges or pains under the armpit, I felt it too (I am 11 weeks pregnant now). I felt a bit scare too at that time. But it does not happen for two weeks now. And I forgot to ask my gynae my last visit. I think I need to remember to check with her next time.

It is common to ‘neglect’ the second pregnancy. Me too. We were too occupied with Malaika.

I only get pimples on those days when I am supposed to be having my period though… so far not much changes on my face…. except look more aunty since I don’t have mood to dolly up! :P

I have body ache every time I sleep… and insomnia too!

with the economy today I think having second baby is a blessing, unless you can come up with alot money for their future. what you think?

Neglecting the 2nd pregnancy?!! Tell me about it, but I guess it’s normal coz we “think” we already know the whole works…hahaha…good that you are exercising more. I have totally ZILCH exercise this round, except walking around, and up and down the stairs between the two levels of my office. The last time, I swam 2-3x weekly till the end. I really pray that this would not make delivery more difficult.

Syn – I’m wondering too about how I’m gonna cope with two. Luckily I have my Mum around again!

Paik Ling – Keeping an open mind lah…

Health Freak – Thanks for sharing that :-) We’ll see, we’ll see.

HN – You too? Ok, I’m not too worried then.

EtceteraMommy – Thanks, dear. Sigh, thought I could find out too but no, it’s too early. Anyway, I’ve had a ‘paradigm shift’ i.e. open to both a girl AND a boy now!

Wen – Can only find out later lor…

Sheng – Hope all’s OK with you. I forgot to mention it to the gynae! Anyway, no aches for me already.

    Malaika’s Mummy – Guess that’s common, eh?

    Angeleyes – Hahaha…rest well!

Sherry – It ain’t cheap to raise a child but hey, we grew up with siblings so we definitely didn’t want our son to be an only child. I think it’s good because he’ll learn how to share!

A Mom’s Diary – I’m not really walking that much on weekdays but on weekends, Hubby ‘forces’ me to climb up and down stairs etc even though I complain, complain, complain LOL I got to remember to do it when I’m back home esp crucial during those last months when weight gain goes up!
