What’s wrong with you?

in Pregnancy, Toddler

Lately, the toddler has been demanding,

“What’s the matter with you?”
“Mummy, what’s wrong with you?!”

Hubby asked me where he’d learn them from but I had no answers for him. I have no idea either!

Anyhow, the poor fella is not used to seeing Mummy creeping in to lie down on the bed halfway through cooking or sleeping in on Saturdays after waking up.

Last night, he wouldn’t accept me sleeping in the bedroom alone while he and Hubby were in the hall. Yelling at me to go “sleep outside”, he helped me drag the comforter out.

Snuggling next to me on the couch, I had a good laugh when he grabbed a cushion from under Hubby’s head when I commented,

“Why are there so few cushions around?”!

The look on Hubby’s face was priceless :-) What a best friend, eh?

This pregnancy’s more challenging for me mainly because of FOOD.

With the first pregnancy, I was happily surviving on:

  • breakfast – tomato and cheese toast OR my favourite koay teow thing and wantan mee
  • lunch – steamed pomfret (almost daily!) and stir-fried Chinese dishes I cooked in the morning
  • dinner – Malay noodle soup or some other kind of soup

Now, I seem to prefer more flavourful dishes e.g. Italian food like pizza or spaghetti; mild curry chicken with rice or any dish with spicy chicken wings. Really weird…

Can you believe that I even bought cans Ayam brand’s tuna with chilli, mackerel with black beans and tuna with mayonnaise when they went on ‘sale’ at RMB16 per can???

And I can’t even stand the smell of some of my own Chinese soups!!!

Unfortunately, I CANNOT stand the smell or sight of the steamed pomfret and am relieved my toddler isn’t too fond of it anymore either. At best, I can eat deep fried fish seasoned with turmeric. This baby’s gonna be so deprived of Omega 3 fatty acids.

Breakfast and tea have been tough because bread is really expensive here i.e. 5-6 slices for about RM5-6 (and buns with boring choices e.g. pork floss, sausage, pork slices, char siew, anything PORK).

I don’t have a toaster oven and don’t think we’ll get one since I’ll be going home in a couple of months. No Made in China toasters – only a teeny-tiny imported Phillips at RMB400+

I’m hoping to hang on here until mid-July when his kindy goes on summer break. Now that I’m craving for chapati with dhall curry, char koay teow and or Malaysian stuff, I wonder if I can!

On a sad note, the toddler has bronchitis (because I delayed taking him to the doctor when he had a cough for more than a week) and is now on antibiotics while I’m taking Nim Jiom Pei Pa Koa…if summer brings on yet another flu attack, I’m ready to give up :P

Don’t worry about deprieving the baby of certain food. It usually happens in the first trimester only and at worst, 2nd trimester.

Hope that he will recover from his bronchitis soon. Take care ya both of you.

Oh dear… looks like your MS is really bad…. I can still remember during darrius’s time… but still I drag myself and walked around some part of Europe and making marks with my pukes! LOL

Hope to see you soon back in Penang!

Great that you have a good appetite. Any morning sickness so far? Speedy recovery to both you and the boy. I hate coughs – they almost NEVER go away in toddlers!!!

you’re not having morning sickness r u? jst nausea? hope ur not having morning sickness coz i had it and ryeli witnessed alot of me vomitting over the toilet bowl and initially she got disturbed about it but i will always forced myself to cheer up after that and assure her tht i’m ok and tht i’m jst sick.

good that u still can crave for some food which means u can eat except for the food tht turns u off.

Immomsdaughter – Thanks, guess I’m caught up with how different this pregnancy is from the previous one. I’m just relieved the tot is getting better. I can’t wait for my own darn flu and cough to recover. Bleagh….

Angeleyes – I don’t puke so it’s all just stuck, you know?

Paik Ling – I’m hungry every 3 hours or so, which is annoying because not much food choices around here. Really miss Malaysia…

Syn – No puking, thankfully. Eating is really tough coz one beef noodle soup is OK today but yucky tomorrow. Plus I’ve got lots of phlegm which means I’ve got to eat carefully or everything comes out! Total HELL…

I couldn’t stand Chinese soups too in the earlier stages, now it’s OK. And don’t worry about depriving your baby of certain nutrients. Our body is an amazing machine and even if you don’t eat well, your body will know to take care of the baby first.

A Mom’s Diary – You know what? I just told Hubby please not to give in to my cravings. I was thinking “pizza and spaghetti” but had major indigestion after that heavy, greasy meal :P I think I’m sticking with rice and soups!
