Mummy’s best friend
That’s what Hubby calls our son because he’s my little bodyguard and yes, he is kind of my best friend. Before his next naughty act makes me forget, I thought I’d jot down the melting moments in this Mum’s life:
1. When I breastfeed him, he’d place one little paw on my breast and look at me with puppy dog eyes as he nursed. After he finished one side, he’d automatically roll over to the right as I scooted over! It made me laugh every time…
2. Each time he takes a yoghurt out of the fridge, he’d take one for Mummy too. He also brings us spoons and places them nicely on the dining table! I just love the way he says, “One for Mummy, one for Lucas.”
3. Should I go to the toilet or take a bath when Papa isn’t back yet, he’d sit and wait on the mat outside the toilet, chattering or singing to himself (or peeking at me through the slats).
4. He’d point to our cushions, which display a boy and a girl playing tin telephone and say, “This Mummy” when he points to the girl and say “This Lucas” when he points to the boy. When I ask where’s Papa, he says, “Papa is working” LOL
5. When he was younger and I wanted to join them on their Saturday outing at the supermarket, he’d push me back into the house, yelling,
“Mummy stay at home. Mummy is tired. Mummy work on computer!” (my excuses when Hubby asked me to go along LOL)
Then he’ll yell at me to go inside and shut the wooden door while he closes the external grill. Such a little commando!
6. When some Chinese stranger offers him some snacks in the playground or offers me some pamphlets and they ignore my repeated, “Bu yao, bu yao”, he’d suddenly turn really fierce and yell out,
“BU YAO! BU YAO!”
It sure got them to back off
7. When he’s in the mood, he’ll come up to me, holds my face in both his hands and plants a kiss on my lips and gives me a hug. Then, he’ll order me to do “sayang” (love) him back LOL
8. He still wails for “Maaaaaa-meeeeeee, come here!” each time he wakes up from his nap although he’s more acceptable of Hubby going in instead nowadays. Of course when he’s really grouchy, he’ll kick and scream until I go in instead.
9. When he was about 2, my mother-in-law shifted my cellphone from the dining table to the phone table. Nobody knew the tot had seen this because he was busy playing with his toys.
My mother-in-law got the shock of her life when the tiny tot ran up to her yelling, “Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!” and pointed at the cellphone.
She finally realized he was accusing her of moving Mummy’s belongings that she quickly put the phone back LOL I think I was taking a bath then…
10. I can sit anywhere on the couch but Hubby has his designated spot LOL And when I sit with him on the couch, he’ll put the “fireman’s hat” on me and also give me a chopstick (God knows what that represents) to hold.
Can you believe that I read, watch TV or walk around the house with the hat? I look really silly but it makes him really happy, which makes me happy
11. I know I’m spending too much time on the computer when he comes to me and pulls my hand, asking me to
“sit scooter one time. Just one time!”
or asks me to take the laptop to the couch to sit with him “siang Papa” (like Papa).
I’ve forgotten other precious moments with Lucas but eleven will do for now. I’m treasuring them because I know that soon, he’s gonna drop me like a stone, walk 10 feet ahead from me or force me to drop him off 10 minutes away from school

Hi Kat, you sure got one great kid there. Sounds adorable too.
To your son, his mom is a never ending song in his heart of comfort, happiness and being.
He may sometimes forget the words, but he will always remember the tune.
And one good mother is worth a hundred teachers.
Have fun, kids grow up fast.
Best regards, Lee.

And these are music to this Mum’s ears. Thank you!
You are so right, KittyCat. My sons would not want to be seen with me about 5 years from now! Treasure the moments!!!
Paik Ling – Ya, I feel it now especially since he’ll have to compete for my attention 8 months later. Kesian…
You have such a lovable son. His protective and lovey-dovey actions towards you are so touching!
Aww, such endearing moments. Now I know why your hubby wants a girl to stick to him like Lucas sticks to you.
