No AVENT BPA-free bottles in Malaysia

by SuperMom on February 11, 2009

*NOTE: AVENT (BPA-free) bottles are now available for sale in Malaysia.

avent-bpa-free-bottle I was searching high and low for AVENT’s BPA-free range of bottles in KL and online but found NONE available. The only online store selling them was Lil Caliph but they are also out of stock.

Correct me if I’m wrong but a little bird told me that the reason why no AVENT BPA-free bottles are available in Malaysia is because Kinderdijk, the sole distributor for AVENT products in Malaysia are not bringing them in.

According to the last email from AVENT, the BPA-free bottles would be available in Malaysia, Hong Kong and China by Q1 of 2009.

It’s almost mid-February but I still don’t see any AVENT BPA-free bottles in stores in Penang or KL. How about Mums in Hong Kong or Singapore? Any sight of them there? Do let us know.

I’ve been really careful with my current lot of AVENT bottles because the concern is that BPA (at high temperatures e.g. boiling point of 100 deg C) will leach out of the plastic bottle into baby’s water/milk.

What’s more, scratches in the bottles will increase the risk of BPA leaching. I’ve switched from a brush bottle cleaner to one with a sponge tip to lessen the incidence of scratches.

However, I worry more about the boy’s use of the AVENT bottles at school – the teachers tend to refill the bottles with hot, boiling water as they believe children should drink warm water.

Horrified at the thought of his drinking BPA-filled water at school, I bought a set of MAM BPA-free (PPP) bottles but he rejected them.

That’s what happens when your kid gets used to a brand they’ve been using as a baby…

I bought a PPP tumbler from Rubbermaid and hope that he’ll try it out since it has a straw.

In the meantime, if anyone can buy the 9 oz AVENT BPA-free bottles and send them to me, will you email me please? Thank you in advance!!!

Spore has the BPA Free Avent bottles but not easy to find as the normal Avent bottles.

Erina Law February 11, 2009 at 5:06 PM

Can get AVENT BPA Free bottles in Penang too.

Jessen February 11, 2009 at 5:09 PM

AVENT products are pretty hard to find in Malaysia. Mainly because it’s too expensive and not all dealers will keep the stock.

KittyCat February 11, 2009 at 5:25 PM

Chanel – Thanks for the info!

Erina Law – That’s great news. Care to share where in Penang, please?

Jessen – This far I’ve been able to find AVENT stuff easily at Jusco or baby shops. Some Anakku shops stock AVENT also. I agree with you that it’s expensive. No choice as ONLY their bottles can fit into the AVENT pump.

Erina Law February 11, 2009 at 5:51 PM

Kitty Cat, I’m sorry. It’s a typo error. I mean I can’t get it from Penang too. My friend is asking her sister to look out in HK too.

a n g e l February 12, 2009 at 3:02 AM

hi.. my sister just bought a BPA-free bottle at Jusco Sunway Pyramid.. not sure about the brand.. but it’s not Avent..

giddy tigress February 12, 2009 at 5:16 AM

I got mine in the US. If there are people willing to bring them to you from here, I can get some for you. Or would you prefer them shipped?

Syn February 13, 2009 at 10:45 PM

i thot they would be available here too in January. luckily i’ve asked my sil to get them for me frm US whn she came back for cny. not cheap though compared to the normal bottles.

i got a feeling that the dealer here wants to get rid of the old stocks before bringing in the bpa-free ones.

btw, havent been shopping yet so havent come across the mam drinking bottle u want for lucas.

Malaika's mummy February 15, 2009 at 2:21 AM

Can get the smallest Avent BPA free bottles in Spore, not the medium and large one though.

KittyCat February 23, 2009 at 4:56 PM

Erina Law – Aiyo…you got me all excited for a while!

Angel – It’s too late for me to switch brands :-(

Giddy Tigress – Thanks again. I’m checking out locations nearer to me first ok, to save on shipping?

Syn – No worries about the MAM tumblers. The little fella rejected the MAM bottles. I just HAVE to get BPA-free ones.

Malaika’s Mummy – Thanks for the info…I need the 9 oz ones :-(

sy February 24, 2009 at 4:13 AM

If avent is really that great a brand, ALL its bottles, breast pumps, pacifiers should be BPA free. Instead, they are just producing a specific range of BPA free bottles while still maintaining the regular toxic bottles in the market. WTF!

Angeleyes February 24, 2009 at 8:19 AM

I think Avent is not that good a brand. I have a few here and they tend to leak even I was sure I secured the cover properly. In many occasions it wet my bags and sofa and drenched Darrius’s shirt. If I did not get that 3 bottles in one pack, I would have probably change to another brand or go back to Tupperware which I am giving milk to Darrius in that only. I only use Avent as water bottle.

KittyCat February 24, 2009 at 1:26 PM

Sy – You said it! I’m not happy either being stuck with AVENT but my tot started using their bottle when he started breastfeeding. What to do ah? I HAVE tried other brands on him, with no luck.

Angeleyes – I’ve had that problem too and solved it by a) screwing the top gently until it ‘locks’ into place and b) jiggling the nipple a bit to ensure the suction between the nipple and plastic rim.

Stephany March 10, 2009 at 11:45 PM

My gal has using the Avent BPA free bottles too. I had bought from LilCaliph last time. They’re re-order the stocks. U can purchase anytime now. Thought to change another brand of PES bottle. Any brands suggest? Think like the Avent teat a bit hard. My gal seems like don’t like to suck it.

KittyCat March 11, 2009 at 7:41 AM

Stephany – No, I’m afraid I can’t recommend another brand as my son only likes Avent :-( If your gal doesn’t like Avent, it’s a good time to try other brands!

Stephany March 11, 2009 at 8:29 PM

Never mind KittyCat. I will doing my survey this week….I had called first few year in The Curve & just asking about the BPA free bottles. They have selling Avent BPA free bottle there. But It’s expensive as compare the price with LilCaliph. It’s about RM100++ for twins pack…..But the 9oz was out of stock already.

KittyCat March 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM

Stephany – Thanks for sharing that First Few Years prices are higher than Lil Caliph’s? Really useful for Mums looking for BPA-free bottles. I wanted the 9 oz pack too and am frustrated I can’t buy it from Penang or China.

SY Cheah March 18, 2009 at 3:38 PM

The First Few Years in Spore also out of stock for the 9oz bottles. They recommend to buy the bottle trainer kits, which comes with 9oz bottle with handle for SGD26.90. Or the Starter Pack (2pcs 4Oz, 2pcs 9Oz, Dispenser, Brush) for SGD79.90

KittyCat March 19, 2009 at 3:46 AM

SY Cheah – Thanks for letting us know about Singapore shops :-) As I’ve got the trainer handles already, I just need the 9 oz bottles.

Glee March 19, 2009 at 11:56 AM

where can i get avent bpa free breastpump in klang valley?

Jenny March 22, 2009 at 2:22 AM

There is an online store selling glass bottles – Puku glass feeding bottle and Farlin glass feeding bottle. It’s cheap too less than RM20.
Glass is safe from BPA.

KittyCat March 24, 2009 at 8:52 AM

Glee – I think Medela’s breast pumps are BPA-free. AVENT hasn’t launched their range yet. Not even sure if there’s one in the plans.

Jenny – I’m sorry but I don’t allow free advertising on this blog. If the online store owners would like to advertise their BPA-free products, do contact me.

JennyChan March 25, 2009 at 6:04 AM

My girl, Jolene is using Avent bottles since she was 6 weeks old. I just bought 2 9oz of Avent BPA free. It costs about US$18 and Made in English. Also, their pacifiers are BPA Free too. I would suggest to use GLASS bottles if you gals can find one.

veron March 28, 2009 at 11:18 PM

Where can i get bpa free 1.5l – 2.0 tumbler (for school children) in klang valley.

Minddy March 30, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Hi mummy,

I just called Kinderdijk again today, and now she told me the Avent Free-Bpa will arrive only end of May ! So frustrated to wait for it.
I am not udnerstnad why it take too long time to bring in this bottle ?

Stephany March 30, 2009 at 5:04 PM

Glee – U can get the BPA breast pump from Lil Caliph

KittyCat March 31, 2009 at 7:13 AM

Minddy – Thanks for this update! It’s really useful info :-) I have no idea why too. I think it’s because the Asian region doesn’t have as strict regulations as the UK, US and Australia?

San San April 1, 2009 at 4:27 PM

Dear Mummy,

Good news to you all, finally i ask my fren from Singapore to buy me the Bpa free bottle , it cost only MYR 50/bottle (4oz or 9oz). Not including the shipment cost yet. Please tell me today, if you all are interesting to buy, i can ask my fren to bring me one time together back to Malaysia.

San San April 1, 2009 at 4:28 PM

VIcky April 28, 2009 at 10:17 PM

hi San San,
Can check with ur Singapore friend where can get the BPA Free Avent bottle ?

Raine Lim May 13, 2009 at 8:54 PM

Hi…for alternative, i actually bought my avent BPA Free bottles from Amazon.com. But the courier charges will be expensive unless you gather a few ppl to order to make up the weight for the courier charges and all of you will have to share the costs.

KittyCat May 14, 2009 at 6:41 AM

San San, Vicky and Raine – Thanks for sharing all this info. Looks like BPA-free 9 oz bottles are still not available in Malaysia eh? I’m thankful a friend’s getting them for me from US. My boy will only get to use them in July anyhow. Really don’t know what’s going with AVENT.

Stephany May 29, 2009 at 10:21 PM

Concern father June 20, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Avent BPA free bottles are available in baby shop in Subang Parade next to ToysRUs – cannot remember shop name- new shop

eeanan July 13, 2009 at 2:39 PM

Besides online baby shop, “Mom’s care” which has outlet in IKANO, midvalley, sunway pyramid etc has AVENT BPA free bottle. I bought 2 for trying. LEAK easily though. Pls comment if you have tried that too.

KittyCat: Leaks worse than the original AVENT bottles? A friend’s buying mine from the US and will try them in Aug. Will share then ok?

Mom-To-Be July 16, 2009 at 3:13 PM

Hi,

I just bought AVENT BPA-free (9Oz) with the price MYR48.00 for single bottle and the good new is 10% discount. Not too sure if this is a good bargain or not. But I guess, it should be lucky enough to be able to find AVENT BPA-free with 9 Oz in KL/PJ.

Well, if anyone out there is interested to know where the place to get it, kindly let me know and I’ll be willingly to share out the info.

KittyCat: That’s pretty OK, I think. For me, after getting MAM at RM35 each, AVENT is kind of above the range now. But will forward your details to anyone’s who’s keen.

May Queen July 20, 2009 at 3:46 PM

Hi,

i have used the Avent BPA FREE milk bottle for my son since May. But i found the bottle is leaking. Its really terrible. i bought it in Singapore.

Anyone can help me on this, its really make me headache.

thanks

KittyCat: Hi! In general, I find that my AVENT bottles leak too esp after a wash. What I do is jiggle the nipple a bit so that the water helps the suction between the nipple and bottle ring.

Then, twist the bottle ring close gently until you hear a soft “shuet” (?) sound which means that it’s locked tight.

Hubby ALWAYS has a problem with this because he’ll use his manly strength to lock the bottle too tight and milk sprays in all directions when he shakes the bottle LOL

Even the boy knows how to exclaim now, “You close too tight!” (after hearing me a few times ;-) )

Raine Lim August 2, 2009 at 10:02 PM

Hei Gals; Don’t be so discouraged about Avent. It is a very good bottle indeed. The leaking is because you did not lock the cap on properly. To master this…place the cap and turn anti clock wise till u hear a click sound…then turn clock wise till its tight. I don’t have any problem with the Avent BPA Free bottles at all. On the contrary, been told a friend that Dr Brown is not good. Cause baby need to suck very hard due to the straw design and as a result….more colic problem. As for MAM….another friend shared that after several months of washing and sterilizing…the components don’t lock so well…therefore…wwhhooossshhh…there goes her baby’s rompers!! All of them have switch to Avent BPA – Free Bottles. I swear its still the best. By the way…mommies looking for them…please check it out at Mom’s Care One Utama. There are even having 20% discount.

KittyCat: Ya, I agree with you about closing the AVENT bottles properly as I’ve not been having too many problems with leaks either. I’ll be using MAM for my baby and will watch out for these signs of wear and tear you mention. Thanks!

Where can I buy Avent BPA-free baby bottles in singapore?
Do u know if it is on sale?

KittyCat August 23, 2009 at 6:38 PM

KittyCat: Look around the many baby shops and malls there? I’m sure you’ll be able to find them since we’ve already got them in Malaysia…

Shirlyn Goh August 26, 2009 at 9:15 AM

I just bought a Avent BPA free bottle, but when i wanna assemble the botle,i found that the new taet spoiled (a big hole). Fortunately i did not give to my baby. iI wonder why it could happen to Avent bottle.Anyway, i went back to the counter & the sale assistant replace a new one for me. Please feeadback to the supplier so kind of mistake would not repeat again.

KittyCat August 31, 2009 at 1:18 PM

Hi Shirlyn – I’m glad to hear that you got your AVENT bottles exchanged! Hopefully, no other Mums experience this…

Hui March 22, 2010 at 12:43 AM

Hi, everyone out there. I’m back to KL from England in June 2010 and would helps to buy Avent products if you want. Collection only in KL Cheras area and Malacca town centre. It is much much more cheaper than buying them in Malaysia. But of course I would charge slightly higher than the price I pay but still…. a lot more cheaper than in Malaysia.

Do drop me email at jh7032003@hoitmail.com for a price quote.

sally June 16, 2011 at 2:45 PM

it is necessary avent bottles need to replace every 6 mth?

Kitty June 17, 2011 at 10:45 PM

sally – I’ve just replaced my boy’s AVENT PP bottle with a new one. Think I’ve used it for more than a year but that’s because it still looks OK for an AVENT PP bottle.

I just checked my little girl’s AVENT PES bottle and don’t think that it would last that long because I can see slight scratches inside. That’s probably because the maid uses a bristle brush to clean it. You could use the bottle longer if you used a soft sponge.
