It’s baby proofing time!

When your baby starts crawling, it’s time to start baby proofing your home. Crawling babies can move so fast you’d be surprised at the number of places a baby can reach on his hands and knees!

How did I start baby-proofing our apartment? By crawling and checking out the hall from a baby’s viewpoint :-)

If you’re looking for baby proofing products, look out for the usual suspects i.e.
- cabinet locks (e.g. KidCo Adhesive Mount Magnet Lock-Starter Set to secure the TV, hall and kitchen cabinets;
- corner cushions (e.g. Safety 1st Corner Edge Cushions for the coffee table;
- outlet covers for the electrical power points and
- finger guards for doors.

Cabinet locks are indispensable in our home as I can breathe easy knowing that our CDs, DVD player, glass items, gas tank and other untouchables are safely out of his reach. He is such a curious boy!!!

Finger guards are top on my list because my tot LOVES opening and closing doors :P I love the Panda Door Pinch Guard (Mommy’s Helper) because they are cute, keep doors from slamming on your toddler’s fingers and can be kept high out of his reach too.

Corner cushions don’t really work as he can easily pry them off but since our coffee table is a wooden one (not glass!), we’ve had no problems with it.

For the next baby, I must get a kitchen gate to prevent the crawling baby from going into the kitchen. I know too many toddlers and kids who have been burnt or scalded because all they did was grab at a bowl or pot of hot soup on the kitchen counter…

Thankfully, the apartment in China has sliding doors to keep the baby out.

If you live in a double-storey house, you DEFINITELY need baby gates (I think there are portable, multi-functional ones nowadays) – a baby or child falling down the stairs is just too horrible to imagine…

Have you checked how safe your living room, dining room, kitchen, toilets and bedrooms are for your babies, toddlers and preschoolers? For me, it’s really, really better to be SAFE than sorry!

I hated that I had to move my pretty vases. Barely 3, he is already opening the fridge. Ya, I gotta get cabinet locks as well.

Be prepared for more, more, more! We’re lucky I don’t have many “pretty” things, only books LOL
