REVIEW: Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

by SuperMom on November 9, 2008

No matter what hang-ups I have about the way I look, I am thankful for the good skin I am blessed with. Overall, it’s quite normal but after the birth of my baby, I noticed the soles of my feet (particularly the edges) turning dry, crusty and cracked.

I was busy during the first few years the baby was born that I only applied moisturizing lotion when I remembered. Of course, the condition never got better and it never got worse either. It just stayed DRY.

Then, I read Angeleyes’ post about her amazing recovery from dry skin that I decided to try out Skin MD Natural Shielding lotion myself!

(Click on the image to visit the SkinMD website to get more info or to get a bottle for yourself)

When I received the bottle, I was pleased to see these features of Skin MD Natural Shielding lotion:
• No animal products or testing
• Dermatology tested
• Fragrance and colorant free
• Hypoallergenic
• Paraben free*
• Non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog your pores!)

Unlike other moisturizers, lotions or creams, Skin MD Natural uses the

latest developments in skin care technology as well as the most effective natural ingredients to restore your outer layer of skin’s natural ability to protect against dangerous toxins and irritants as well as to reduce the loss of natural oils and moisture.

A shielding lotion replaces the barrier that’s stripped away with the daily use of most soaps and cleansers.

Ok, you’re thinking isn’t that what moisturizers already do?

NO! Moisturizers add moisture to your skin, which is why you’ll find most creams and lotion with the keywords “moisturize” or “hydrate” or “restores moisture”.

Skin MD Natural is different because it:

“helps the skin do its job better by providing a moisturizing sealant that allows your body to properly regulate the moisture environment of the skin.”

Thus, it’s a “shield” for your skin as your body works to replenish its water content. Kind of like how a band-aid / plaster is used to protect your raw skin while your body heals itself from a cut.

Impressed by the scientific basis, I read that I only need to apply a light layer an best of all, after my dry skin improves, I don’t have to depend on it forever!

The lotion is a light, non-greasy solution with a pleasant scent (made with aloe vera and chamomile added with vitamin E).

Now that the cold weather is here, I’ve been applying it every night before I sleep and only after 1 week, I am pleased to report that Skin MD Natural works.

The dry areas now feel as soft as the other parts of my feet!

I am so happy with the results that I can’t wait to try it on the boy because Skin MD Natural has been proven effective against chronic eczema.

What’s more, this shielding lotion is also recommended for facial care - hey, it’s the best news for me as it means I can say goodbye to day creams, night creams, hydrating lotions and etc with just ONE lotion :-)

Mmm…I’ve also been trying it on my stretch marks but I don’t think Skin MD Natural is formulated for that yet. But I hope the scientists and dermatologists will let me know the minute a NEW lotion for stretch marks is released!

After I had my kids, I rarely apply any lotion except for the basic facial care, even facial mask also hardly remember to do….sigh

Hmm .. my boy also has ezcema, can i use it on his face too? Doctor gave him hydro-cod to apply, but his face is dry after applying for few days, but it works (the red rashes subside) Then I apply J&J lotion on his face, the red rashes appears again. Any idea ?

Angeleyes – Yes, it does! :-)

Karenyiau – I know what you mean…

JJ – Eczema needs an overall plan to manage. Check out this post: http://apregnantpause.net/2006/07/05/aargheczema/ which is a guide on how to care for eczema for infants to toddlers.

thanks for sharing. my kids suffer skin problem more serious than eczema. i’m currently using herbs lotion specifically for skin patients on them. i find it ok, and may not want to try others…..since the previous is working fine on them.

Jacelyn – I met a kid with a major allergy and skin problem during CNY and can imagine the difficulties you go through. If the herbal lotion works for your kids, that’s good!
