What a week!
Oct 1 is China’s national holiday – to give everyone a week’s break, most companies made their staff work on 27/9 (Sat) and 28/9 (Sun). Haha, even Lucas had school those 2 days!
On Sunday, Hubby and I went for a date
We went for a McD breakfast and then browsed around for end-of-season stuff but got nothing because the maximum shoe size is 38 – I’m afraid Sasquash here wears a 40.
I also tried on a few qipao (cheongsam?) with the intention of making my mother-in-law happy for the coming Chinese New Year by NOT showing up in casual pants or jeans again…
One dark crimson one fitted quite well (ahem, ahem!) but too bad the colour didn’t look quite right on my skin. I had a lot of fun, together with the shoplady and other female shoppers, helping a Chinese bride choose or reject her wedding qipao though
Then, we had a nice PEACEFUL and LEISURELY Italian lunch and moved on to the DVD shops to grab my stash of Zhang Yimou movies, Chinese-themed movies or foreign films. What heaven!
Our date ended with a bus trip home, with ample time to ‘relax’ before the tiny tyke came back LOL He was pleasantly surprised by a box of Fireman Sam DVDs…a new craze. He’d asked for the book but I’ll have to wait till we’re in Malaysia to look for it. Anyone seen this???
Unfortunately, the weather’s changing and with it came the nasty cold wind (or a virus caught in school), which made Lucas sick.
First, he had a phlegmy cough and then he sneezed, which produced gooey green slime from both nostrils! Seems like a ‘heaty’ constitution to me…
I boiled his favourite barley drink but he’d only drink a bit (I think I messed it up by adding white fungus in it). Hubby bought him apple juice but he REFUSED to drink it straight or even diluted by almost 80% in water!
On Tuesday, which was the day we’d start our Chinese class, he ran a fever of 38 deg C. Then, it was 39 dec C on Wednesday and even last night. I gave him paracetamol, which was tough to take – he somehow liked the pink one by Panadol but it isn’t as effective as the orange one by Uphamol.
While he took his multivitamin, Rhinatiol and Salbumatol quite willingly, he HATED the paracetamol. Usually, I’d measure the medication into the cup and he’d drink them himself.
When he refused the paracetamol, I had no choice but to force him to drink it – ha, easier said than done! He’d clamp his mouth tight and worse, blow bubbles after each drop. AAARRRRGHHHH can you imagine how messy the situation is?
He’d also yell, “Bu yao, bu yao, bu yao!”
Great, we’re happy he’s learning Chinese but isn’t it ironic the first word is “No”?
With Hubby’s help, I had to use a syringe to drop the paracetamol in. It was a terrible situation and only got down 3 ml at the most. In the end, I spoke to him and told him he HAD to take the medicine. I offered a spoon instead or I’ll use the syringe again.
Amazingly, he agreed, got up calmly and sat at the dining table to take the rest of the paracetamol! TODDLERS!!! (said in the same tone as MEN!!!!)
Yesterday, I was quite panicky as my Salbumatol had run out and a friend was only bringing supplies next week. His cough was really bad that I SMSed my 2 friends with small kids.
Phew…was I thankful that one of them had a spare bottle and immediately drove over to our apartment with it
God bless you, Ja So!
Today, he’s much better but still a bit warm at 38 deg C. He took a man tou for breakfast and I’m planning to cook a light porridge today. Also going to boil barley again and get Hubby to buy some grape juice also. He has to increase his fluids!
Both of us are dutifully taking our vitamin C and echinacea because we certainly don’t want his virus too.
Sigh…a week-long holiday with plans to go the park, the science center and the library (and start our Chinese class!) ended up wit treating a cold…
Hope everyone else is having a much better time
Selamat Hari Raya!!!

aiyo, sick again? poor lucas!
maybe u shld keep some suppositories (spelling?!!) on standby which is what i did initially whn the girl refused the pink or orange ones. i had to threaten her with the supps (she’s afraid of them) but at least forcing this up the bum is easier than forcing the liquid down the throat since they tend to vomit esp after a feed!
glad hubby and u had a date – we need one too! will be a while now for that. lol!
Paik Ling – Yes, he’s better now, thanks. The cough is still there though and the naughty fella doesn’t want any cough mixture! Eh, your Uphamol is pink? I got mine from Malaysia also…
