Hello!
Mummy and I are still trying to adjust to our new hectic routine but she thought I may want to run you through a day at my preschool, esp after all the hype she went through!
Here I am all dressed up in my school uniform. Don’t I look cute?

In my special Thomas the Tank t-shirt, which is actually for Chinese New Year! She let me wear it once when I said I didn’t want to go to school
That day, lots of old ladies pushing their babies and tots called me, “Xiao Ge Ge!” (Little big brother) because I looked so smart hahaha

Then, we wait for the Uncle (shu-shu) to bring us there. Mummy really hates it when he’s late because it’s HARD to wait with me - I’ll demand for sweets, chocolates etc! Or worse, I may suddenly change my mind and say, “Mai go (s)chool!
Thankfully, the ride there is about 10 minutes as we only need to pick up a few other (crying) kids. Then, it’s time for fun
My favourite is the TRAMPOLINE! Oops, Mum caught me falling instead of bouncing here. I also love driving the Little Tykes cars, playing house or riding the various trikes available. No end of fun, fun, fun!
Just before 9.00 am, I need to show my fingernails to the Doctor (yi sheng) who will check that I don’t have a temperature. I am given a red card to put into my slot in the class.
Then, we eat breakfast (dian xin) which can be steamed dumpling (bao), Chinese pancakes or a bun served with powdered milk or soya milk (dou jiang).
Here’s my classroom: We are all over the place at this time but nowadays, we are getting better i.e. gathering at the table when the teacher calls us.
To keep all of us quiet, the lao shi (teacher) will start to play the piano. Sometimes, naughty fellas like me get to plonk, plonk on the piano! I really LIKE the piano that Mummy may consider piano lessons for me later when I’m OLDER and more matured.
Then, it’s singing time where the teacher teaches us action songs in Chinese and an English teacher comes in later with some nursery rhymes.
I perk up at this point because the familiar English tunes of “Twinkle, twinkle Litte Star”, “Row, row your boat”, “London Bridge”, “If You’re Happy” and others amidst all this Chinese make me happy. The teacher reports that I love to join in the actions and sing along. Mummy will try to get a video of this, ok?
We are all ushered to the toilet for a pee break every 15 minutes because not everyone is toilet trained. Anyway, tots like us can only hold our water for just so long!
We then have a “Corner Play Time” which is everyone’s favourite because we get to choose what we want to do. A corner with different activities are set up - drawing / singing & dancing / toys are probably the only corners available to us now.
Mummy is surprised a reading corner isn’t in the list. According to the teachers, tots at this age can’t appreciate books yet (duh???).
Here’s the toy shelf - and that little guy in red is the one WHO BIT MY THUMB! Can you believe that he made that big, tall girl cry also? Many Mummys are keeping their eyes on him now.
At 11.30 am, we get ready for lunch. We all go to the toilet to wash our hands and dry them on individual hand towels. Err…the hand towels are all wet, though. I can eat the rice (mi fan) and porridge (shee fan) all by myself, which again impresses the teachers and ayi. Mum’s early training is really paying off!
By noon, we are finished and are getting ready for nap time. Can you spot me napping nicely? Mummy worries about me a bit because other little giants don’t nap and they trample over me sometimes! Sigh…her heart aches for me sometimes at how fast I have to grow up…
When we wake at around 2.30 pm, we have a snack of shui guo (fruits). Then, it’s another activity which is sometimes a “Tom & Jerry” cartoon in the TV room or some other teacher-led activity.
At 3.30 pm, we have our “dinner” which is either noodles or mi fan (rice) again. By 4.00 pm, Mummy would show up at my class and when I see her, I’ll jump up and down excitedly yelling,
“Mummy come back again! Come back again!”
By 5.00 pm, we are back home and Mummy will be rushing to prepare dinner. Me? I’ll curl up with my water bottle to enjoy my “Tigger Movie”!
HOW IS IT LIKE AT YOUR PRESCHOOL? DO SHARE!
*Note - I am up by 6 am and Papa attends to me while Mum snoozes till 7 am. Then, she’s got to pack backpack with an extra suit of clothes, milk powder and handkerchieves.
She’ll then make breakfast, eat and feed me, dress up and then work her magic on me. At the rate she’s going, she doesn’t need to go on a diet!

Wow! Lucas really warmed up to attending pre-school :o). Too bad that some people think that tots don’t appreciate books. In fact tots (and even babies) LOVE books!

Wow Lucas is adapting so well at school. Did her cry the first couple of times?

how come some kids are not wearing school uniform eh?
i agree.. it’s a shame books reading are not encouraged at this age. What other core curriculum they teach there?

wow! big boy!!!! Eat all by yourself!!!
I’m amazed that he actually naps! I doubt my monkey would even nap! Then again, my monkey’s pre-school is only half day!

Eat by himself? Good job! Lucas, can come teach Bryan kor-kor to do that ah.
Bryan is so lazy (spoilt by grandparents). He does all that himself at school but once he is back home, he is a little emperor who gets everyone to do things for him - including holding the cup for him when he drinks milk! *Pengsan*

Lucas is having so much fun at the preschool! So I guess it’s alright to give him some sweets and chocs while waiting for shu-shu?

Paik Ling - Yes, he is. No, he didn’t cry at all except for the time the teacher grabbed him from me. I strongly emphasize the “no crying policy”!
Yvonne - It’s the first week
Many of them were crying/screaming/haging onto parents’ legs. I don’t think they want to wear the uniform! It’s a Montessori-based kindy, which means they focus on basic life skills, independence and a love for learning.
Sting - Thanks for the sympathy…I was really heartbroken when it happened. He’s happy now.
Mott - Hehe…he started when he was about 18 months old. I was determined not to have a messy preschooler! I initially thought of just half a day but since he naps well, I’m sticking to full day. Preparing for No. 2!
Shooi - Haha, that’s quite normal as Lucas also wants Mummy to “manja” (dote on) him at home. I give in *a bit* since he’s so good at school
Julie - LOL I admit I’m super strict with sweet stuff with him. He’s such an active boy (really can do without the sugar high)! Chocs are ‘heaty’ so I only give them occasionally…he gets gummies/chewies (and the occasional lollipop) now ONLY when he asks

A Mom’s Diary - Yeah, he’s really good. I’m really relieved because that means I can prepare for No. 2 next year!
