A Pregnant Pause

BUMPY TUMMY * BOUNCY BABY * YUMMY MUMMY ^^

REVIEW: Mothercare 2-way carrier

This is one of the sturdiest baby carriers I’ve had the chance to own. Mothercare is a trusted brand and I am happy with every penny I’ve paid for this item. Incidently, it costs 35 pounds when I got it from London.

Putting on the carrier is easy as you only need to:
1. Slip the carrier over your head while baby is seated on a pram or baby chair. The baby carrier should open out onto your lap. Ensure that the padded straps are aligned firmly on your shoulders. You can adjust the length later.

2. Sit down and transfer baby onto the carrier on your lap. Secure the broad Velcro straps first. Then, slip in the snap closures for the double security I love this Mothercare carrier for!

3. Putting a hand below baby’s bottom and one arm around him, stand up to test the weight of baby in the carrier. Stand in front of a mirror to check that baby is safe, secure and at a comfortable height. The picture on the box helps as a guide.

4. Turn around to check that the shoulder straps (the middle of the X) crosses the middle of your back for a comfortable and stable fit. Your back or your shoulders should NOT feel tired after carrying baby around. Now, you’re ready to go out and about :-)

Baby is so snug and secure when strapped in that I didn’t even need the baby seatbelt when I used it on board aircraft. Even the stewardess could see that he was safe and sound in the carrier versus open and exposed in the flimsy seatbelt.

The padding for the Mothercare carrier is thick enough for baby and Mummy to walk around without worrying if baby’s back and head are well supported. Also, the crossed straps behind Mum’s back ensure that the weight is evenly distributed without straining her back.

The carrier allows you to carry the baby in 2 positions:
1. Mummy facing – for babies less than 3 months old (when their neck muscles are still developing) and
2. Forward facing – for babies older than 3 months who are curious about the wonderful world around them!

The maximum weight allowed for the carrier is 12 kg. Accessories accompanying the carrier are two cotton bibs for baby’s drool when he is front-facing.

THE VERDICT:
An excellent product! The plaid pattern is attractive and withstands regular wash and wear. Even macho Dads would feel proud carting baby around in this carrier.
