My baby has tremors/shakes

by KittyMom on July 24, 2006

I noticed this in him when he was just a month old but with so many things happening (confinement lady, breastfeeding, recuperation etc), I forgot to mention this to the paed.

Then, when he was about 3 months old or so, I see the tremors again.

Last Saturday, I noticed that he still had it.

It’s different from the shudder he gets just when he’s about to pee.

This is involuntary and his whole body shakes i.e. his head, his body and his limbs “shiver” as he’s breastfeeding.

I mentioned it to hubby and my Mum told me that she noticed it about 2 weeks ago too.

This is immediately cause for concern and I called up his paed to check. She asked about his overall development and I told her that everything was great: feeding (both milk and solids), bowel movements, sleeping, speech, motor skills etc.

I observed that the times I saw the tremor was when he was breastfeeding and sleeping.

She called us to bring him in tomorrow as he is already going into his 6th month, which means he couldn’t be having an immature nervous system.

She worried that it could be fits / epilepsy and that after a thorough check-up tomorrow, if she’s still not happy, she will recommend a brain scan for him.

Oh no!!! This means that my baby will be given some medicine and be put to sleep for the scan. I am very worried about this and pray that everything will be OK during the check-up tomorrow.

If not, I’m not sure if I want to put him through the ordeal of a general anaesthetic or a brain scan yet – we may go for a second opinion.

Please pray for us that everything will be alright for him tomorrow.

What did the paed say? Hope it is nothing major.

Paed says he’s ok and we could go for the scan to confirm, to be safe. His shakes/tremors are not that regular but we should take him in again if he shows it. I pray not!
